Llandybie Community Council's Funding for 20 groups

LLandybie Community Council regularly awards funds to organisations that contribute significantly to community life, and the latest round of funding was no exception.

At a presentation evening at Saron Hall, more than 20 groups were handed funds to help them continue their vital work.

Among the notable recipients this year were the Crafty Baggers, a group providing people with not just creative outlets such as knitting and other forms of art, but also opportunities to attend social gatherings and coffee mornings.

Carol Rio’s Spine Road Community project also secured a grant.

The project, which involves Penygroes community members looking after a shared garden where they grow flowers and vegetables, has fostered a lively community spirit throughout the seasons.

Particularly celebrated was the Llandybie Friends of Tenovous Group, which had quite a memorable year after hitting the £200,000 figure in terms of money raised for people supported by the cancer charity over the past three decades.

The council's chair, Carey Thomas, urged community voluntary and charity groups to apply for funding, saying: "Our commitment to supporting the fabric of our communities is an essential added value in helping sustain the good work of these groups in our communities".
