Llandybie Community Council Declares Nature Emergency

Llandybie Community Council has declared a
nature emergency following concerns about the
state of nature in the UK.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Julian Tandy, who proposed the
motion stated that the country is in the middle of a nature
crisis with almost half of all UK wildlife in long term decline
and 15% of species being at risk of extinction.
Professor Sir Partha Dasgupta’s review into The Economics
of Biodiversity, commissioned by Her Majesty’s Treasury,
highlighted that humanity does not exist in isolation from
nature but sits within it. Nature is an asset on which all
aspects of our society depend and with biodiversity
declining faster than at any time in human history, we are
undermining the productivity, resilience and adaptability
that nature lends our society.

Commenting, Councillor Julian Tandy said: “I am delighted our community
council passed the motion to declare a nature emergency.
The climate emergency is only hastening this destruction of the natural
environment, damaging habitats and disrupting ecosystems. Yet it is these very
habitats that have the potential to lock up carbon and fight back against rising
global temperatures. It is essential that we not only protect these spaces,
but let them thrive – for the benefit of people, planet and nature.
As we recover from the COVID-19 crisis, the need for nature-rich green spaces
where we live and work is clearer than ever and will help health, education and
the economy build back stronger. We recognise that action must be taken now
to remedy this and to put nature into recovery at a local level, in support of
regional, national and international work to do the same.”

Mae Cyngor Cymuned Llandybie wedi datgan
argyfwng natur yn dilyn pryderon am gyflwr
byd natur yn y DU.
Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Julian Tandy, o'r Democratiaid
Rhyddfrydol, a gynigiodd y cynnig, fod y wlad yng nghanol
argyfwng natur gyda bron i hanner holl fywyd gwyllt y DU
yn dirywio yn y tymor hir a 15% o rywogaethau mewn
perygl o ddiflannu.
Amlygodd adolygiad yr Athro Syr Partha Dasgupta i
economeg Bioamrywiaeth, a gomisiynwyd gan Drysorlys Ei
Mawrhydi, nad yw dynoliaeth yn bodoli ar wahân i natur
ond ei fod yn eistedd o'i fewn. Mae natur yn ased y mae
pob agwedd ar ein cymdeithas yn dibynnu arno a gyda
bioamrywiaeth yn dirywio'n gyflymach nag ar unrhyw
adeg yn hanes dynol, rydym yn tanseilio'r cynhyrchiant, y
gwytnwch a'r gallu i addasu y mae natur yn benthyg ein
cymdeithas.

Wrth ddweud, dywedodd y Cynghorydd Julian Tandy: "Rwy'n falch iawn bod
ein cyngor cymuned wedi pasio'r cynnig i ddatgan argyfwng natur.
"Mae'r argyfwng hinsawdd ond yn prysuro'r dinistr hwn o'r amgylchedd
naturiol, gan ddifrodi cynefinoedd ac amharu ar ecosystemau. Eto i gyd, yr
union gynefinoedd hyn sydd â'r potensial i gloi carbon a brwydro'n ôl yn erbyn
tymheredd byd-eang sy'n codi. Mae'n hanfodol ein bod nid yn unig yn
gwarchod y gofodau hyn, ond yn gadael iddyn nhw ffynnu – er lles pobl, planed
a natur.
"Wrth i ni adfer o argyfwng COVID-19, mae'r angen am fannau gwyrdd sy'n
llawn natur lle rydyn ni'n byw ac yn gweithio yn gliriach nag erioed a byddwn yn
helpu iechyd, addysg a'r economi i adeiladu'n ôl yn gryfach. Rydym yn
cydnabod bod yn rhaid cymryd camau nawr i gywiro hyn a rhoi natur mewn
adferiad ar lefel leol, i gefnogi gwaith rhanbarthol, cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol i
wneud yr un peth."
